Independent advisors

Professor Laurence Lovat, Division of Surgery and Interventional science, UCL/UCL-hospital. GI cancer expert.

Professor Lovat convenes the annual Barrett's Oesophagus research symposium at UCL on behalf of the Heartburn Cancer UK charity. Professor Lovat is on the scientific advisory committee to the UK BE Foundation and is Topic Lead for BE in the National Electronic Library for Health. He is a specialist advisor to NICE

Professor Kerry Chester, UCL Cancer Institute and Cancer cell biology.  Antibody engineering expert. Kerry leads the Recombinant Antibody Therapeutics Group at the UCL Cancer Institute. Her main research interests are design and construction of antibody-based therapeutics and the interaction of these molecules with cancer targets. The basic antibody fragment used is the single chain Fv (scFv) and constructs such as scFv fusion proteins with enzymes or albumin are explored. There is a focus on Bench-to-Bedside and the Group has a licensed Production Facility to make antibody-based therapeutics in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

Dr David Mann, Department of Life Sciences, Imperial College London. Cancer cell biology expert. Dr Mann's is interested in cancer biology, particularly that relating to cell proliferation and signal transduction. Many cancers exhibit aberrant signal transduction and the enzymes involved can make excellent targets for therapeutic intervention.  He aims to identify such targets, characterise their functions and establish techniques for regulating their activities.
